Santa Barbara is very nice (I live there). It’s about an hour and a half north from the Los Angeles airport. I don’t know what time of year you plan to vacation, but we have a Film Festival early in the year; in the summer we have Solstice and Fiesta celebrations; we have something called “I Madonnari” (I think that’s how it’s spelled) where a whole bunch of artists do chalk paintings outside the Santa Barbara Mission. We have the beach, mountains nearby, and many wineries to the north in Santa Inez valley. There’s all kinds of things to do here!
