Me and "the girls" are going to Myrtle Beach in late June. None of us have been there either but from what i hear, it's VERY family friendly. Not to mention it's not quite as hot as Florida is in June. Have fun!

I live in S.C. and Myrtle Beach is horrible! Bad sand, ugly water, no waves and it has really attracted a lower class over the past decade. North Carolina beaches are nice but we don't find N.C. too amusing. My husband, my son and I went to Destin, Florida two years ago and it was absolutely beautiful! Clear water and soft white sand and we even caught sand dollars in the ocean with our feet! Gorgeous area! Really nice communities and a lot to do there! It is almost hurricane season but I don't think that is an active area in Florida for hurricanes.

I live in North Carolina and have been to Myrtle Beach a few times. Myrtle Beach is a great family vacation spot. There is lots of shopping and family friendly activities besides the beach, such as numerous shows, concerts, arcades.
My brother lives in Pensacola Florida on the panhandle. The beaches there are beautiful. Very tropical on the gulf. Not much to do there but it's not far to the Alabama line and there is shopping. Not sure about the family activities. In Pensacola there is a Naval museum that's very interesting. Look it up online.

I live about 30 minutes from Myrtle Beach.....It is a great family vacation area. My wife and I take the kids there on a regular basis. There is a lot to do and it is not very expensive, unless you are a golfer. If you go into North Myrtle Beach, you can go to the Alligator Adventure...It is very coll and the kids love it. There is also a reptile area where they put on shows every couple of hours.....Plus, it is near the House of Blues if you are looking for a good show to go too. The name of that area is called "Barefoot Landing" it is not to far from the "Dixie Stampede", the kids would also love to go there. They put on Horse shows, and it too is not very expensive. ...I could go on for sometime.....If I had to choose, I would go to Myrtle Beach, it is a great family getaway.....Enjoy!!
Don't worry about the Hurricanes....they usually get bad around August and September....Have Fun!!

Hi....I go to Myrtle Beach each spring myself. I have another trip coming up in around a month.....I love it there so much that I want to move there in the next year or so. I usually fly in and I live in Minnesota, which is the midwest.
In all fairness though, I have never given Florida a shot. I know that the poster who said that area never gets hit with hurricanes is wrong. Even to a minor extent, they felt alot of the storms of the past two years. But Myrtle Beach has been lucky and has only been affected by minor storms and tropical storms. They are due. Hurricane season starts June 1st but usually it takes a few weeks for the season to start getting active.....
Myrtle Beach is affordable, family friendly and has great shopping, dining and more attractions than Barefoot Landing.
Check your dates with North Myrtle Beach though as one of the bike weeks is mid to late June and traffic can be horrendous and it surely isn't as family friendly then.......
If I go to Florida ever, I want to see the Venice area and for sure all of the Keys. I would also like to go to Daytona just to go to the Nascar race.
You can get a nice free guide for Myrtle Beach at www.myrtlebeachlive.com. It is a pretty good size book each year. North Myrtle also offers a book on their site as well.
Have a great time wherever you decide to go.
