My kids love going there, because they love exploring and searching for shells.

If you want to enjoy the beach and soak up the sun, this is the place. It is not a party town,
I love the Don Cesar for their Sunday Champagne brunch, its costly.
You will find a number of cafes along the beach a little north that have their own personalities that are good places to stop for a drink.And of course you are 20 – 30 minutes from Clearwater if you are looking to party a little hardier.
As far as a day trip from here, take 75 south to Sarasota, St Armens circle and beach area are top notch.

Miami is 4 hours away – uh – no – that’s a great trip in itself (week)
Ft De Soto Park and Beach has been rated #1 in the past few years
by Dr Beach
Good fishing cruises/charters
Superb Seafood
Great Sun and sand
Catch a Rays game at the “Trop”
2hrs away from Disney/Sea World/Universal – not bad – we did it when we lived in St Pete
Skyway has the older part of the bridge used as a fishing pier –
may need a license
St Armands Circle, just south of the Skyway, has great shopping (pricey)
Also has Ringling Museum in Sarasota on the way
further south in Ft Myers – Thomas Edison Museum (lights over 100 years old) next to Henry Ford’s house – also part of the exhibit
(get your tix at AAA if a member)
a lot to do – - also local TV Channel My Fox 13 – has several editions
of a book called One Tank Trips – - -great day outings

St Pete has a huge bridge that you will enjoy. When you look out over the water its endless. I love Ft Meyers and Panama City Beaches better myself (Naples by Ft Meyers ) is by FAR your better beach than St Pete, but anywhere in FL if you havent been…is awsum vacationing. The shores of Lake MICHIGAN are so wondrous moreso than FLORIDA because you can NOT see the end or the other side of the LAKE!! Purely lovely and awestruck every time its like the first time. Leave Miami for another day. If I am not mistaken, its a half day trip there and thats a whole nother day trip in itself! (or weekend trip?)
There are all kind of things you can do though, Have no worry, the place will be poppin . and there’s always shells ! to pick up and to purchase in huge shell shops. lol
