I would pack some of those travel botttles from First Start. They are 3oz bottles that you shake, attach a nipple and serve. When I brought my 5 month old on a 12 hour car ride, I would sit in the back seat with him and when he would get hungry, I'd give him one of those before we could pull over. You'll want to bring a few things that remind him of home. He's favorite blanky with the home smell on it.....

Do they sell patience?
Take a portable DVD, a playpen for the beach (he won't like the sand long), sunscreen, a good beach umbrella, swimmie diapers, floaties or life jackets, snacks for the ride and the beach, juices for the ride and for the beach. If your house doesn't have a good washer and dryer, you need to take extras or plan to go to the laundromat. The sand will be very irritating to his skin.
Just got back last week, have fun!!!!

My advice, being a mother of three, would be to make sure you bring plenty of toys for the car ride,( at that age anything that lights up is GREAT!!), if you do toys with lights- batteries, your child's favorite " comfort item". Whether it be a blanker, stuffed animal, or binky. As far as the beach goes, little swimmers, those things are awesome, plenty of sun screen, floaties, ok mom,DON'T forget the camera and film. And most importantly bring the best attitude because this will be a memorable moment for all of you. Have fun and be safe.

We just got back from the beach with our 10 month old son, and lemme tell you... I found the most important things for ON the beach was a spray bottle of water, for spritzing the sand off of him while he was by the chairs, and a bucket of plain water for dunking toys and other things that inevitably get sandy. Also wipes and some water or juice for him in a bottle that we weren't attached to... that way if it got too scratched up or icky we could toss it after the trip was over.
For after beachtime was over, we were happy we brought a non-greasy baby lotion to slather him in, as those ocean breezes might have a chance of drying his skin out.
There's a few decent spf 50 sprays out there, they seemed to work better for our son instead of the lotions.. those, even if the label said "non-stinging," tended to make his eyes red and iritated if he rubbed them.
Don't forget a nice hat and coverup, too.
Have fun!

Every child is different...best to play it by ear especially if this is his first long car ride. I would just see what works and what doesn't...hopefully you are not going alone so someone can alternate riding with him in the back seat when he's up so does not feel ignored...in terms of when you get to the beach...a blanket, an umbrella and sun block

get a mobile DVD player and bring Disney movies. when you are at the beach, because he has a good chance of getting sand in his diaper which can lead to some problems make sure to be careful. other wise sand toys and maybe a float to get in the water with him, but only if the water has small or no waves at all.

Instead of baring his skin to the sun, have him in a long sleeve tee light weight and light in color. A hat with a brim. Water diapers. The most important thing is not to forget the camera with film/disk and extra batteries.

COOL! NC is the best! Anyway, bring everything he uses at home, portable crib, too (if he's rolling). Probably nothing special for the car.
