Clearwater, St Pete Beach, Treasure Island, Madeira Beach and Reddington Beach all sort of run together and there are family activities and a "trolley" bus that runs down gulf boulevard through some of the towns. There is a Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, Busch Gardens in nearby Tampa. There is an aquarium in St. Pete and one in Tampa. This summer we spent a week at the Sand Pebble Resort in Treasure Island. It is a time share, but they also rent out the apartments when they have vacancies. We got a 2 bedroom, 2 bath with a kitchen and it's right on the gulf with its own beach and has a pool and barbecue pits. The second bedroom was a good size room with two large beds, not the usual cramped second room. It was cheaper than a hotel and we saved a lot on food as we were able to make our own meals. The kids were happy when we went to the Candy Kitchen up the road in Madeira Beach with home made ice cream in the sundaes. The kids also liked John's Pass with its wharf and shops and restaurants. They have boats that go out from there, but we didn't go out.

I hear the gulf beaches are beautiful, but i know that you can have tons of fun at daytona... in that area, there are old spanish forts and other parks, the daytona international speedway (if you're a nascar fan) a ripley's museam (st. augustine) and of course, an awesome beach. and it's not too far from orlando and disney.

My suggestion would be Panama City Beach. There's a water park, Ripley's museum, several putt putt & arcade places. Most of the beach is soft white sand. Some of it's darker in places b/c of recent construction which has slowed down. The water is clear most years. St. Andrew's State Park has a great area for snorkeling (you can buy or rent gear). You can rent jet skis. Some places even do a sunrise dolphintour on jet ski out to Shell Island (not far). Lots of shells on Shell Island. Dolphins are out routinely. Lost of tours etc. There's a dinner cruise boat Lady Anderson that would be appropriate to bring kids. There's a pirate ship to go outon & they shoot off a cannon. A giant speed boat, parasailing, helicoptor tours.
