On the west coast of Florida, there are rentals on Madeira Beach, Reddington Beach and Treasure Island. There are shops at John's Pass, fishing boats and a trolley bus that goes up and down the main strip. There is the Candy Shoppe in Madeira Beach with home made ice cream and home made hot fudge for your sundae. There are dozens of family style restaurants. You can contact the Island Gulf Resort in Madeira Beach or the Sand Pebble on Treasure Island to see if they have any rentals available. It is a time share so you get a full kitchen to save money on meals and both are on the gulf of Mexico. You can also check out timeshares for rental by owners at www.redweek.com and http://www.timeshareownerscommunity.com/ to see where you can get a nice place to stay at a wide range of places. They rent them cheaper than the hotels do as a lot of times the owner just wants to cover his annual fee.

Huntington Beach, California.
There's lots of neat shops for all family members, it's open to walk all around that part of town without traffic, and it's a beautiful beach right on the Pacific Coast Highway.
