Most places will probably require a minimum of a 1 week stay during the summer...that's just the way it is. Of course you can pay for the whole week, and simply use it the 3 nights you are going to be there...but that may seem like a waste of money for you. At this point, if you don't want to pay for the whole week, your best bet may to find a hotel a mile or two inland and book it for a few nights...or start planning a week for next year!
Your 4 hour limit will place you anywhere between Surfside Beach, SC (just south of Myrtle Beach) up to around Nags Head/Kittyhawk (excluding Cape Hatteras). Wrightsville and Carolina Beach are very popular destination for Raleigh residents as they are the closest beaches...and they are very nice as well. You can usually make it to those in under 3 hours.
On google, do searches like "wrightsville rentals"...where you replace "wrightsville" with various beaches you are interested in. You should have no problem finding tons of links for realty companies that allow you to search for rental properties.
Here's a few that I quickly pulled up for beaches I have been to and really enjoyed...and a quick search does show there are some properties with 1 week vacancies this month.
